Memories That Last

(Terri Roben)
It was just a bedroom, a desk and a chair, a closet, a window, a door
Part of the attic made into a space
Where our parents could easily store
Two sisters with seven long years between us, just the place where we slept
You'd come home and wake me and show me the dances, and patiently teach me the steps
Chorus:
Of the Mashed Potato, the Bristol Stomp, the Jerk, and the Peppermint Twist
You'd tell me your secrets of boyfriends and dates and how it felt to be kissed
And in that room, surrounded by attic, filled with things of the past
We'd talk for hours in giggles and whispers, making memories that last.
(Johnny Angel...I will follow him..Big girls don't cry!)

Now I was in 5th grade and you were a senior, with different interests and goals
But sharing that room meant spending time together, baring the dreams of our souls
I wanted to be a zoologist, and you were to write a great book
You'd fuss for hours, getting ready for parties, I'd tell you how pretty you looked.
Chorus:
We'd practice Mashed Potato....
Duke, duke, duke, duke of Earl...In the Jungle...Oh my love, my darling..

It was just a bedroom, a desk and a chair, a closet, a window, a door
But that space that we shared together came to mean so much more
A part of our childhood, our family memories, a place where our hearts could store
Memories of growing up sisters and friends, learning how to step out on the floor
Chorus
We'd do the mashed potato...
different end -
Part of our childhood, our family history, a place where our hearts could store memories of growing up sisters and friends, learning how to step out, how to step out, learning how to step out on the floor, cha cha cha!
